TTArtisan 17mm f1.4

Man, if you're hunting for a budget wide-angle prime on Sony E-mount that punches way above its price, the TTArtisan 17mm f/1.4 is a no-brainer. This thing is dirt cheap compared to big-brand glass like the Sigma 16mm f/1.4, but it delivers that high-quality feel and results that make your videos and shorts look way more premium.

First off, the build is solid – all metal, feels premium in hand, nice clicky aperture ring, and it's compact enough not to make your rig feel front-heavy on an A6400 or whatever APS-C body you're rocking. Manual focus only, but with Sony's focus peaking and magnification, it's smooth sailing – especially for static shots, vlogs, or controlled streaming setups.

Optically, it's impressive for the money. That f/1.4 aperture gives you beautiful subject separation and low-light performance – perfect for streaming in dim rooms or grabbing those cinematic short-form clips with some nice background blur. The wide 17mm view (about 25-26mm full-frame equivalent) captures so much of the scene without distortion getting crazy bad; it's great for talking-head stuff, desk setups, product shots, or quick outdoor B-roll where you want to show environment without fisheye vibes. Colors pop decently, contrast is good, and stopped down to f/2.8-f/4 it's plenty sharp across the frame for content creation.

I've got very little negative to say about it – seriously, for what it costs, it's a gem. If I had to nitpick from what I've seen online and experienced, some folks mention noticeable chromatic aberration (purple fringing) wide open in high-contrast scenes, and corners can be a bit soft at f/1.4 until you stop down. But honestly? Easy fixes in post if it even bugs you, and for streaming or vertical shorts, you're not pixel-peeping corners anyway.

Bottom line: If you're a content creator on a budget who wants that fast, wide prime without dropping hundreds extra on autofocus bells and whistles you might not even need, grab this. It's high quality where it counts and makes your footage look pro. 9/10, highly recommend – I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
